John lewis: I'm making a documentary about 19 64 and what came to be called freedom summer. i interviewed a few dozen people who took part in this really pretty radical organizing effort in 64. Not only was the party not doing much to stand up for political rights of black people, it was literally not protecting them from widespread racest violence,. especially in places like mississippi.
