What Does That Mean?
When we say that something costs an arm and a leg, we are saying that it is really expensive. It's so expensive that it's as if you were giving parts of your body you ate for it. The rule of thumb is an expression we use to refer to a a rule that everyone uses for some kind of procedure - usually unwritten. People just assume that it's the right way to do things but its not like a law. Its just how most people act. Yet.
