The Importance of Faith in the Promised Land
This is one of my favorite passages of Scripture, because every time I am encouraged by the strength of faith that those before me had. They all died and they all died not having received the things promised, but they had faith. And so they died knowing that they were strangers and exiles in this broken world. The next three verses tell us that these all died knowing that there was a better homeland. That is a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God for he has prepared for them a city.
