The Politics of Genetic Testing
There are some uses that have this kind of political value like filling in some of the gaps that were intentionally produced by the transatlantic slave trade. Or for example, some people have used it to find biological parents or people who have been separated. So there are all these ways in which genetic testing can recreate bonds that were destroyed by time and by human violence. And I also don't want to minimize the 23 and me genetic testing for formerly colonized and or enslaved people who might not have a very good sense of what their heritage is.
