I get the impression that a large number of product teams aren't following recognized agile practices. I think it's also very common for product managers to be auto takers for senior management. So whose job is it to really make sure we know who the customer is and what their needs are, it falls on product manager. Most people's time is spent on delivery, actually running the agile process and building and shipping the thing. If you've got UX, you might be spending some time on design, but a lot of times the discovery and the definition get skipped or ignored.
