The rush and pressure of modern life are formed, perhaps a most common form of its innate violence. The frenzy of the activist neutralizes his or her work because it kills the root of inner wisdom which makes work fruitful. Parker: I'm here in a society that is obsessed with effectiveness, with outcomes, with results. We're no longer interested in educating a child; we're interested in getting that child to pass tests.
