The Tree of Life
Among the first people of the eastern woodlands, it is said that at one point on the circle of time they lived in the sky world. To day, there grew among them a great tree of life and every kind of plant was born on its branches. One night, a great windstorm blew through the sky world and toppled the tree. The next morning, gije coque, a beautiful young woman, stood beside the great hole where its roots had been. She stepped close to the edge to look below, and all she saw was blackness. Some say this is the flood memory of our people, who were witness to the inundations at the end of the last ice age
