What Is Kingship?
The king was supposed to be the model of believing loyalty in Yahweh. But that is not why Israel asked for a king and first Samuel 8. They want somebody to be like the rest of the nations to have a king that leads them in battle. That runs contrary to what God wanted kingship to be as an institution. Next time we'll take a look at the people's request for the kingship and how Saul became Israel's king.
