A Faster Climb Does Not Prove Doping

Tadej Pogačar has just gone faster up Alpe d’Huez than Marco Pantani — but what does that actually tell us? In this episode, we dig into the science behind the comparison, from modern equipment and fuelling to training, fatigue and durability. We also look at where performance estimates can become misleading, why historical comparisons are far more complicated than they seem, and the uncomfortable question everyone eventually arrives at when a modern rider eclipses an EPO-era benchmark.
