The History of the UN

The UN is composed of 193 member states, and its main body includes the General Assembly. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was a ground-breaking document that established fundamental human rights to be protected by all member states. Another key development in the history of the UN was the creation of peacekeeping forces in the early 1950s. Since then, UN peacekeeping forces have been deployed in dozens of conflicts around the world.
