The only languages that don't change are dead ones. A living language inevitably changes and goes in all sorts of unpredictable directions. Change is undoubtedly the shibboleth for a large number of people. If they want to go and talk about death, well, you can't stop anybody doing names in it these days, can you? But it's an irrelevant concept. Yes, change is always there. Change there has always been. And I suppose what people really mean when they say the death of the English language is they just mean that it's changing.
