The Legend of St. Patrick and the Snakes on a Plane
There have never been snakes in Ireland, not in human times. The reason is before about 10,000 years ago, we had an ice age going and reptiles don't cotton to ice ages. And so once Ireland became an island, there was no easy way for snakes to get there. So that's why Britain has those, even though it's an island. Incidentally, there are other lands that do not have snakes besides Ireland. Greenland does not have snakes. Iceland doesn't have snakes. Antarctica isn't very cold. New Zealand hasn't got them either.
