The Anglo-Saxons in the North Sea Region
The roots of English began to emerge during the 5th and 6th centuries. During this time period, Frankish Kingdom emerged in Gaul. The West Germanic language of the Franks began to seep into the late Latin of Gaul. And some of those Frankish words were retained as Latin evolved into French. From there, those FrankishWords passed into English after the Norman conquest of England.
