The world of work is rapidly being gamified with everyone from Amazon staff to programmers being made to play a competitive version of their job. This actually is quite pernicious and the history of this sort of technique predates the digital age. The difference with gamification is that it's now possible to monitor people's output far more accurately or far more frequently and in real time. But even though some of these games can be quite sophisticated and look quite good, you don't really have any choice in whether you play them, which means they're not really games, are they?
