The Importance of the Eucharist

In ancient Greek, the word used for wine is farmakos, which means drug. Wine was routinely referred to as a drug from like the time of Homer to the fall of the Roman Empire. Ancient literature points to something like a psychedelic vision in the first century AD at the time of the earliest Christians. This experience of the ineffable could be part of everybody's experience and may in part explain what's missing from modern religion.
