Are Origination Fees Hidden in Different Ways?

Central bank operations that the Bank of England started during the European sub-red debt crisis were quite effective at reducing the funding cost of lenders. Lenders, because their funding costs were now lower because of the central bank facilities, reduced the interest rate that they charge on new mortgages. And so consumers benefited from the decrease in interest rates of the work bank. But at the same time, we do find that lenders charge higher mortgage fees. So the benefit to the consumer was partially upset by the fact that lenders were able to capture through fees some of the benefits of the decreasing costs that they experienced. We know that many of these consumer finance decisions consumers might not fully understand all the features of a product
