Is There a Representation of the Right?
Sally Kohn: Schlaffley's first love was foreign policy, right? And nuclear policy. She wanted to be an elite policy wonk for Republican politics. But that just also means she isn't a clean representative of like paranoid fever swamp grassroots conservatism because her aspiration was always to be a part of the policy elite. On the other hand, you don't see in Mrs. America is actually worked with women like Mildred Faye Jefferson, who was the first black woman to graduate from Harvard med school and staunch anti-abortion opponent. That more complicated picture, I think, is one that we just have to keep in our mind.
