In the 13th century, Anatolia was a wild and unstable frontier zone. A massive incoming migration of Turkic-speakers from Central Asia began in the 11th century. The Mongols themselves would soon arrive on the doorstep of Anatolia. This new arrival took the form of the Mongol successor state that was centered in Persia.
