The Evolution of Humanity

We're living in a time of the first truly global society, and humanity has never figured out how to create an enduring society. And so whatever happens next, and if history repeats itself, then you have a global, potentially steep extinction on the line here or whatever that may be. So what's the fundamental difference of the evolution that we're about to see next from, say, the agricultural or the industrial through the technological evolutions that we can look back to?
