Aristotle's Principle of Virtue
Aristotle helps us to hone our understanding of virtue by narrowing it down and saying that virtues are a mean between extremes. So on the slide here, i have, for example, courage. Courage is the mean between rashness and cowardice. The virtuous person engages in and cultivates within himself his potential for temperance, generosity. Prodigality has just given everybody, everything. And this sometimes spoils people. It's not a good thing. But illiberality is like scrooge, and that's not good either. So the mean is generosity.
