The Memphis Design and the History of Music Television
When MTV first debuted on August 1st 1981 it changed the way we consume music and pop culture itself. For many people this was their first time seeing this unique new artistic style. The image we saw of the MTV flag on the moon cycled through an endless amount of those clashing colors and shapes embraced by the Memphis group. These two things represented a movement. Both were about counterculture, change and pushing the limits. And both went on to define the 1980s as we know it. But the look of the 80s was only just getting started.
