Tragedy, by Gerard, Is a Symbol of Sacrifice

In Greek Tragedy, violence is represented only by report. A messenger describes for the audience how Oedipus has scratched out his eyes. Using language in this way is obviously a huge step from actually killing someone. The theatre remains sacrificial because it continues to serve the same purpose as sacrifice for its audience.
