The greeks of the late first millennium b c. often tried to associate their spiritual beliefs with those of other cultures. Osiris would become serapis during this hellenistic per so this just seems like a somewhat natural evolution of the egyptian belief system. This would also have had influence on the roman belief system as much of their ideas of worship and deities would be inherited from the greek ideas, which would contain egyptian influence. It would not be until the iconoclastic attitude of the roman christians who imposed christianity on the eEgyptian population that we really see much of the e Egyptian belief system become antiquated.
