The Race Conscious Admissions Policy
The Supreme Court has found race conscious admissions policies unconstitutional as mechanical when they give a predefined boost to applicants solely because of race. Without considering race, the share of African American and Hispanic students would decrease by 45%. The district judge found that actually that is much lower than some of the other admissions policies that consider race. Narrow tailoring involves a careful judicial inquiry into whether a university could achieve sufficient diversity without using racial classifications.
