David asks God to cut off their flattering lips, silence their boastful tongues. In verse 4 he quotes them so that we can have an accurate picture of how boastful they were. He is highlighting a quality of God's word that distinguishes it from the words of the wicked. The Lord's promises are pure, like silver refined in the furnace purified seven times over.
