Christmas with Charles Dickens
You're Dead to Me
The Dickens Family Christmas
In 1837, Charles and Catherine have their first child, little Charlie Dickens. He was born on 12th night, so they always had a big party around that time. One letter by Dickens says the actuary of the national debt couldn't calculate the number of children who were coming here in honor of Charlie's birthday. This memoir by Maimi remembers her father with incredibly gregarious, warm, genial, sociable life of the party kind of guy. She also tells us that he would desert work for a week, which is a big deal for Dickens, who just chronically overworked at all times.
