The Revolt of Alexander the Great in the Nineteenth Century
Not until some 120 years after alexander's conquest do we find a rebellion which looks, at first sight, to have a nationalist dimension. It occurred in southern egypt and continued for some 20 years. One wing of modern scholarship has explained their rebellion as socially motivated against oppressive greek rule and taxation. But social motivation can coexist with a nationalist emphasis.
