GPS and Path Integration
In the days prior to GPS hundreds of years ago when navigators would sail across the oceans and they didn't have any GPS. How do they keep track of where they were as they sailed across these vast expenses of water with no landmarks in sight? They actually did something almost identical conceptually to what we think the animals are doing. And this is a seems to me like the strong analogy to GPS on our cell phone but that's a computer and you're studying the brain. So it's analogous to that in terms of its function.
