I think that on some level, it's because people do understand this, that they say extreme things like never apologize and also why they're so reluctant to accept public apologies. I don't accept this as just the default description of this process. You use the word placate and that's a placate me. Well, then I use the wrong word. Okay. And that's what they might be asking of you to show good faith that you are willing to acknowledge and accept and do something. Those intermediaries are central to the actual process of the construction and distribution of apologies.
