The CIA's Secret Operation Mongoose
In 1961, the CIA was planning an assassination of Fidel Castro in Cuba. The operation would have been called 'Mongoose' and cost $1 billion. John Avlon: It's one of those costly but specious operations that were so valuable they had to be kept secret. He says Kennedy asked a New York Times reporter what he'd think if he ordered Castro assassinated. Avlon: This meeting with Tad Schultz fits a pattern of steps taken by the Kennedy brothers related to Castro's assassination.
