World trade routes are mostly the same as they were a hundred and 50 years ago at the height of european colonial exploitation. In the same way that nized nations provided cheap sugar, chocolate, coffee and fruit to the west, developing nations now provide cheap, semi disposable clothes to the western economic upper classes. I do think that the recognition of colonialism would re orient both companies and designers, i really do. But that would mean centring things like decolonization and critical race theory over the western conceptions that we currently have in the fashion industrial complex.
