What Is Gnosticism?
Gnosticism comes from the Greek word Gnosis, which is the word for knowledge. It tends to be an umbrella term for a number of religious movements around the time of early Christianity that emphasized the importance of knowledge for salvation. A number of these Gnostic groups were Christian and Jesus was central to their systems. They thought that Jesus revealed the secret knowledge that can provide salvation.
