The Importance of Shame in ADHD Counseling

Shame comes into almost every conversation I have with ADHDers. It is something that just like clouds so much of our life and we live in this world that has expectations that don't work for us. So a lot of the work I do with clients is really like rewriting that narrative and acknowledging that having ADHD is really hard. And then talking about self-compassion. There's some research that shows that ADHDers actually have lower levels of self-comp compassion and higher levels of shame compared to neurotypical folks. We're intimately familiar with it. Yeah, we're not so familiar. Compassion is so hard. The more you accept yourself as an individual, the better your chances
