The Importance of Human Intelligence
I think there's a lot of things going on. Science fiction is part of the way that we frame what we expect from AI. But also, I think now we have systems that can communicate with us in natural language and human language. It's really hard not to see them as thinking. We humans are just programmed to project intelligence, agency, goals, and whatever it is that we project on other humans. That's something that humans have experienced. And the language models don't have those kinds of experiences. They don't experience the world. So I don't think they can have the kind of knowledge that we have.
