Rumi's mystical practice is grounded in something like the metaphysical picture offered by Alkunawe. God manifests unbidden to the mystic who has removed the veils that used to separate him from reality. The accomplished mystic also displays a deep humility in that he achieves union only by annihilating himself. Like intellect concealed in blood and skin, the Traceless keeps entering into traces.
