Understanding Complexity in Large-Scale Systems

Major theme of the whole paper is complexity. They are not constructing simple large-scale systems. Unreliability, late delivery and lack of security can all be seen as deriving ultimately from unmanageable complexity. Being able to understand a system is prerequisite for avoiding all of them.
