The Challenge of Authenticity in the Modern World
In ancient times, there were the same issues that one could see with respect to true claims to identity. It makes us uncomfortable when we have to make explicit identity claims a lot at the time. But it's really valuable about studies of identity in the past, is that we have to think really hard about it. We have to think about what it is that makes somebody belong to a group and why people claim to belong to cer groups at certain times.
