"Hannibal's army is about 40,000 infantry. It's about 10,000 cavalry of the40,000 infantry around about 8,000 light infantry," he says. "We have 32,000 line troops which consist of Iberians and Africans probably in roughly equal numbers." He adds that Hannibal wanted to demonstrate something about the Romans' inability to protect their allies.
