The Sankin Kortao - The Five Routes Through Central Japan
The Nekasendo Trail used to be up until like 200 years ago, 150 years ago. There was only five ways to get from Tokyo to Kyoto. The rule of Japan from the 1600s instigated this rule called the Sankin Kortao. It basically meant they couldn't raise funds to have a war against him. So it was quite a clever move.
