The Eagle Bearer
The eagle was the physical embodiment of the legions morale. To let the eagle fall or even worse, let the eagle be taken by the enemy would have been like desecrating a holy sight. So upon seeing the eagle bearer wading through the water and into battle with these crazed blue painted men, the legions had no choice but to follow and protect him.
