The brain loves predictability because it allows us to anticipate and create safety so something being predictable even if it's negative at least we know how to work with it. Unpredictable is always kind of a potential danger threat so it activates a neuroception of threat or or danger for us. The child including an adult child is left to actually become clingy because they have a lot of anxiety and ambivalence about whether or not they can trust this person.
