In most people, the left hemisphere has a more or less total control over language. And you can interrogate the hemispheres independently in these very artificial experiments. It leads directly to the conclusion that consciousness can be literally cut in half with a knife and partitioned with brain. But it does possibly open the door to a quasi freudian sense that we may be somewhat partitioned already.
