AGP Taylor famously said that 1848 was the turning point for Germany and then the German nation failed to turn is that true and if so does it apply to the whole of Europe or how would you interpret the 1848-49 revolution. Marx actually was a who whose whose comments on 1848 I mean his systematic writings are not very helpful for understanding 1848 but his cari-cultural writings like the 18th premiere of Louis Napoleon they are absolutely fabulous. We have this picture in our heads of a revolution which makes the world anew but that actually doesn't happen there well never is made anew it's always a toil some complicated struggle and we're all trying to make sense of
