The Role of Art and Literature Along the Kent Coast
The Kent coast is replete with memorials and public art that highlights the important role it has played in a struggle for national identity. The beauty of public art is they're always open to reinterpretation and different meanings so there's one piece of art that I really hit upon in Folkestone where an artist called Richard Wentworth has gone around the town and found examples of what he calls non-native plants. He puts a plaque next to each of them telling us a little bit about their history but when I look at that I kind of say okay well let's think about Britain as being made through acts of keeping you know other people out.
