Shopify is a giant Ruby on Rails application that was Shopify and to break it up why bother? Yeah so in 2016 we had kind of reached a scale where there were at that point like hundreds of developers working in this main monolith. Now we're talking about thousands and because of how like our teams are structured around more focused domains. So really it was about like velocity and enjoyment of working in the code base.
