The Day of the Lord
The language of verse two evokes the extinction of all life in the flood of noah's day. Later parts of the book explore themes of babel. Some have seen a reversal of the days of creation. The people broken the first three of the ten commandments, fundamentally perverting their worship and rejecting the lord.
