How Did Henry Ford Create a Regional Economy?
In the 19 seventies, Henry ford was building an entire regional economy out of his mines. To day, face books could probably get by with half that if they really had to. In towns like Michigan and t midwest, even though it's faded a bit, people still derive their identity from what was built there. But as these things consolidate overtime, pretty soon you have every business any consequence headquartered in the largest city in the state. And everybody, everywhere just has local managers. There's whole structures of social capital that exist when have a business owner in the town and he knows the people.
