The Moral Argument for Closing Guantanamo
The argument about closing Guantanamo among the moral arguments is that if you change the zip code and move them to the United States or elsewhere, it eliminates the original sin. If you don't deal legislatively with the issue of whether they can be detained under law of war detention and nothing more in the U.S., you really don't change anything but the zip code. And our enemy will simply turn their ire and proxy to the new zip code. That's the conundrum. To close Guantanamo in a responsible way, you have to deal with the fact that we are at war and that law ofwar detention is the guiding principle.
