Freud's theory of the drive can't be fully tamed down by ego, he says. The most economic text of Freud is the project for a scientific psychology that he wrote in 1895 and never published. He talks about how each individual only has a certain quota of libido at his disposal which rival trends have to struggle with. And then there's this irreconcilable conflict between gay and heterosexual people who want to destroy other things within themselves.
