Introduction
Papal agent jerome aleander makes his case to the emperor on behalf of the pope. He says Luther is a heretic, resurrected jonhus from hell. The great and the good of the holy roman empire shift on their wooden benches as aleander delivers a speech lasting three hours. Meanwhile, back in wittenburg, having lectured all day, luther joins his friend philip melancthon and philip's wife caterina in their home. But could not the papacy be reformed? The pope corrected?
